FAQs

How does GCheck calculate the health score?

The score is based on a combination of signals including security, commit activity, contributor engagement, and repo structure. We look at both the technical health and the community behind the project to give a complete picture.

Do I need to create an account to use GCheck?

No account is required. Just paste a GitHub link on our site or use the Chrome extension — that's it.

Does GCheck work on private repositories?

Currently, GCheck only works with public GitHub repositories. Private repo support might be added in the future.

What do I do if a project has a low score, but the team says it’s still in development?

A low score doesn’t always mean a scam — it might just be early-stage or poorly managed. But if a team claims development is active and the repo shows no commits, no updates, and no community, that’s a serious red flag. Use your judgment and always cross-check with other sources.

Can I use GCheck for tokens or coins not listed on CoinMarketCap?

Yes, GCheck doesn’t rely on listings. If the project has a public GitHub repo, you can check it — no matter how early or obscure it is.

Does GCheck detect copy-paste or cloned code?

We run basic fingerprinting and AI-based checks to spot reused or duplicated code patterns. It’s not perfect yet, but it does catch many shady forks and clones.

What browsers does the Chrome extension work on?

The extension works on Chrome, Brave, and most Chromium-based browsers. Support for Firefox is on our roadmap.

Is GCheck only for crypto-related repositories?

No — technically, GCheck can be used on any GitHub repo. But it’s designed with crypto traders and investors in mind, so the scoring logic is optimized for what matters most in blockchain and DeFi projects.

Can I suggest a feature or report a bug?

Absolutely. Head over to our community page or drop us a message on Discord or X (formerly Twitter). We’re always looking for feedback.
